DPC clears revised wine storage project

Approval for revised plans for a wine storage unit on Devil’s Tower Road was granted at yesterday’s meeting of the Development and Planning Commission.

Some of the changes to the approved plans include reinforcement of the roof to ensure it could withstand any rock fall, the reinforcement will result in the building height effectively increasing by one storey; the moving of the office from the left side to the right and the demolition of some walls including five blast walls inside McFarlane’s Chamber.

Approval was granted for all amendments but the demolition of the five blast walls.

Speaking during the meeting, Chief Executive of the Gibraltar Heritage Trust, Claire Montado said that the Trust is supportive of the project but notes that the blast walls form part of the defences and therefore part of the tourist attraction. As a result, the Trust would like to see them retained.
