Europa FC marks 90th anniversary with ministers

Europa Football Club celebrated 90 years by presenting copies of its book to Government Ministers Samantha Sacramento and Steven Linares.

The book, “Ninety Years of Europa FC in Gibraltar” charts the history of the club from its origins and early successes of the 1920s to its disbanding and recent reformation.

Copies were presented to Mr Linares and Ms Sacramento yesterday at the Mario Finlayson Fine Arts gallery as a token of thanks for their support towards the club during the years.

The book is a collaboration with local charities the Cancer Relief Centre and GBC Open Day, whom proceeds will be donated to.

Peter Cabezutto, President of Europa FC, said: “It’s a very proud moment for me as President and for everybody involved in Europa FC to see this book come to life.”

“It’s 90 years of football, it’s a big heritage that Gibraltar has in football and I think it’s important that people not only in Gibraltar know about it but also around the world.”

“Hopefully little by little we will get Gibraltar’s football into the world football scene,” he added.

Mr Linares, proclaiming his infinity for the club given that his son plays for the under 11’s, said it was an honour and a privilege to be presented with a copy of the book. He added: “It’s great to see that now Europa as a club is now coming to fruition.”

Copies of the book are available at Morrisons and Sacarellos.
