Feetham and Stagnetto appointed QC

Local barristers Daniel Feetham and Guy Stagnetto have been appointed to the rank of Queen’s Counsel, in recognition of the highest standard of professional integrity and competence in the legal profession.

Mr Feetham is a partner at Hassans and is also the Leader of the GSD, while Mr Stagnetto is a partner at Triay Stagnetto Neish.

The appointments were made by the Governor, Lieutenant General Edward Davis, acting on the advice of the Queen’s Counsel Appointments Committee and in line with the guidelines for the appointment of Queen’s Counsel in Gibraltar.

“The appointment to the rank of Queen’s Counsel is in recognition of the highest standard of personal professional integrity and competence,” Lt Gen Davis said.

“I would like to offer my congratulations to the individuals who have attained such eminent stature in the practise of law.”

“I am also extremely grateful to the Appointments Committee for their time and expertise in consideration of the applications.”

The rank of Queen’s Counsel in Gibraltar is available to a limited number of senior practitioners who have a minimum of 15 years’ experience since the Call or Admission to the Bar.

They will normally be expected to have displayed competence in litigation, although in exceptional cases an applicant may come from a non-litigation background.

Yesterday Mr Feetham took to social media to express his satisfaction at the news.

“Honoured and privileged to have been appointed as one of Her Majesty's Counsel for Gibraltar,” he wrote on Facebook.

“Proud moment for me and Julia, without whom I could not have done it.”

“Thank you too to all those who have believed in me, particularly, these last few years.”

Mr Stagnetto also expressed deep satisfaction at the news.

“As you can imagine my family and I have been delighted with the news,” he told the Chronicle.

“It is undoubtedly the proudest day of my professional career since I was called to the Bar 24 years ago.”

“It is a tremendous honour and I am acutely conscious of the responsibility that comes with such an esteemed appointment.”

Last night Chief Minister Fabian Picardo congratulated both recipients on behalf of the Gibraltar Government.

“I warmly congratulate both Guy and Danny on their having achieved this professional distinction,” he said.

“Guy Stagnetto is a regular legal advisor to the Government and as such is already counsel to the Crown in the many cases he has handled and is handling on our behalf.” “Danny and I are political opponents but I am nonetheless very happy to congratulate him on this professional achievement which highlights his work at the Bar.”
