GFA working ‘tirelessly’ to bring international football home to the Rock

The Gibraltar Football Association said yesterday it was "working tirelessly” to bring the national side’s international matches home to Gibraltar.

"The GFA is working closely with the Gibraltar Government, as well as with FIFA and UEFA, to bring these home games home, even before the new national stadium is built,” the association said in a statement.

“This is essential. We are working tirelessly toward making our next home game [against Belgium on 10 October 2016] our last home game to be played in foreign soil.”

The GFA said it would issue details on the venue for the home matches against Cyprus, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Estonia “in due course".

The next home game after the Belgium match in October is against Cyprus in June 2017.

The GFA has been seeking special clearance from UEFA to be able to host home matches in Victoria Stadium.
