Gibraltar Under 19s pull a double win out of the bag against Malta

The Gibraltar U19 Futsal squad have set the standards for Gibraltar futsal after doing a double against Malta this week. The two victories by the Gibraltar U19s in Malta coming just weeks ahead of Gibraltar’s senior futsal squad participation in the Futsal Euros Preliminary round qualifiers where they will play against Malta, as well as Switzerland and Scotland.
Following Tuesday’s hard fought victory against Malta, in which they were to come away with a 5-3 victory, Gibraltar U19s were to enter the second friendly international against Malta on Wednesday boosted by their success the previous evening.
It was to be a tough first part of the first half in which both teams had their chances. However, with eight minutes to play of the first half Gibraltar broke the deadlock. The first of a hattrick by Gibraltar’s number eight was to see Gibraltar further boosted. Just two minutes of play later taking on players, down the right flank and then driving through into the centre the same player was to struck with Gibraltar’s second. Turning as he rounded the keeper and striking the ball through the middle between defenders into an open goal.
Gibraltar had to wait until the latter part of the second half before they were to strike again. Having cancelled out Malta’s attacks, the third goal came from an interception in the middle as Malta tried to launch a quick attack. On the backfoot the ball driven to the right flank was swung low across goal where it was to be tapped in at the back post for the third.
Just three minutes later Gibraltar struck their fourth and final goal before Malta scored one of their own. The fourth goal once again a confident run forward taking on players before beating the keeper as he came out to narrow the angle.
The two away wins have boosted Gibraltar Futsal youth futsal which has seen a new energy put into developing the sport from the younger ranks and Gibraltar tries to place its mark on the futsal arena.
