Gib wins opening match with substantial lead

Gibraltar triumphed in their first match of the Netball European u21 Championship beating the Republic of Ireland 49-14.The Gibraltar team started the match scoring first to the roar of some 300 school children attending the match.
Lifted by the constant cheers Gibraltar proved too strong for the Irish side who were on the back foot throughout most of the match. With clean baskets, some determined intercepts and fighting for every ball Gibraltar proved they were serious in winning their division.
Even with the team on court totally different to the starting six, the Gib girls were ‘out jumping and out pacing’ their opponents. The jubilation was intense as the home crowd counted the seconds to the end with a massive roar echoing through the Bayside Sports Complex as Gibraltar took the game.
They will next meet Switzerland and Malta who played each other later in the afternoon. Switzerland proving their superiority winning 37-20.
