Interactive talking plaques to boost tourism

Gibraltar’s main tourist attractions will enter the 21st century through the implementation of 34 interactive talking plaques designed to give life to the Rock’s heritage.

Samantha Sacramento, Minister for Tourism, yesterday unveiled one of the talking plaques at the Lord Nelson Monument at Referendum Gates and spoke to the press on the potential benefits.

The plaques can be accessed through the free ‘Talking Plaques App’ downloadable from the Google App store. The App includes information on hotels, shops, restaurants as well as emergency and useful numbers.

“It connects most of Gibraltar’s main tourist attractions in an interactive wat and nowadays tourists are used to interactive facilities when they travel,” she said. “This is a great private sector initiative by the Talking Plaques Company.”

Ms Sacramento said that it was also important for Gibraltarian schoolchildren at a local level as well as for the large groups of schoolchildren crossing the border.
