Mayor’s Awards widened for more nominations

This year’s Mayor’s Awards will be handed out to seven recipients in an annual special ceremony to be held at the City Hall later this month.

Mayor Adolfo Canepa will present the awards which have been widened to allow more nominations of persons or groups who have served Gibraltar in a distinguished manner.

Louisville Ghio will receive the Silver Award in recognition of his prompt and selfless response in assisting an elderly lady suspected of having suffered a cardiac arrest.

Pepe Fabre will take a Community Award in recognition of his voluntary service with the Royal British Legion, Commonwealth Games Association and his charity work.

Hector Cohen will also be presented with a Community Award for his service to Gibraltar in the fields of trade unionism and charitable work.

Joe Jurado will get the last Community Award for his voluntary service to Gibraltar over the years in various charities and other organisations.

The Gibraltar Cheshire Home Support Group will take the first of three Community Group Awards for outstanding charitable work carried out for more than 30 years.

Bosom Buddies Cancer Trust will be recognised for its voluntary work with cancer patients, survivors and their families since its foundation more than 10 years ago.

The Gibraltar Community Association will receive the final group award for supporting sponsored patients financially and in other ways.
