Picardo says Brexit would be ‘foolish’
Chief Minister Fabian Picardo yesterday said it would be “foolish” to vote for Britain to leave the EU.
Mr Picardo was addressing an audience of businessmen at the World Trade Center’s [WTC] topping out ceremony, just days after the announcement of legislative framework for Gibraltar to participate in the UK’s referendum.
“This year the UK and Gibraltar are facing a referendum on whether or not we should stay in the largest trading bloc in the world,” Mr Picardo said.
“It seems to me that…it would be foolish indeed for anyone to countenance for a moment to move out of the largest trading bloc, which we are already a member of…”
“And assuming that people realise that that is the sensible thing to do and we remain within the European Union, you will have done very well to have got this place off the ground.”
It is estimated around 1,700 people will be working at the new premises once it is built.
