Prior Park welcomes its first 60 students

Prior Park School yesterday opened its doors on the Rock for the first time. Headmaster Peter Watts and teachers welcomed the inaugural 60 students to their classrooms in years 8, 9 and 10. The premises have been transformed since the former Sacred Heart School occupied the site in Old Town. With refurbishment work ongoing in part of the school the school expects to open for Year 11 and the Sixth Form (Year 12) next September.

Headmaster Peter Watts said yesterday saw the culmination of a tremendous amount of hard work “both on the ground here and from Prior Park College in Bath”.

“I am extremely proud of all that has been accomplished. The real work begins now and I and my team are looking forward to becoming an integral part of the Gibraltar community. Exciting times lie ahead,” he added.

The school is the first independent, co-educational, senior school in Gibraltar and the fourth in the family of Prior Park Schools, the other three being in south-west England.
