Radio Gibraltar breaks Open Day record

Radio Gibraltar broke its Open Day record yesterday raising over £46,000 by seven o’clock last night. As the all-day show at the Piazza came to a close the amount raised was over eight thousand pounds more than last year with a total of £46, 260. This placed the second phase of the GBC Open Day on a good footing as the show moved to television at 9pm in a live show from the John Mackintosh Hall.

Throughout the day the Radio side of the GBC Open Day proved as successful as ever as the presenters and friends took donations for dedications and surprises along the way. This year there was more live singing with Paul Isola, Christian Celecia, Layla and Ethan Rocca.

Although things quietened down when the rains came at around 4pm Head of Radio Ian Daniels thanked everyone who had helped raise more than ever on Radio.

“It is great that we have raised so much money,” he said.

“It was good to see so many people joining and contributing to help make this the special event it is every year. I am especially grateful for all the support we have received and to the artists who sang live throughout the day. We really appreciate it. ”
