Rotary Club marks World Polio Day
Tuesday is World Polio Day and the Rotary Club of Gibraltar will be wearing purple in to mark the occasion.
A walk has been organised starting at John Mackintosh Square and walking to Casemates at 10.30am.
Rotary International is a core partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.
Members will be joined by local resident, Eric Rowbottom, who has had to use a wheelchair after contracting polio at the age of eight.
“Mr Rowbottom completed the Med Steps in September 2022 where he dragged himself up the 1.4km route with some 900 steps in a grueling nine-hour challenge,” a spokesperson for the Rotary Club of Gibraltar said.
“The Club is encouraging everyone to join in the walk and wear purple.”
“Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years with a goal of ridding the world of this terrible disease.”
