Rotary International recognises Gib Rotarians 50 years of service

Rotary International yesterday presented the Gibraltar Rotary Club’s President, Penelope Pilley, with an award marking the local branch’s 50th year of membership. The Rotary Club of Gibraltar, which was admitted into the international family in April 1966, has been recognised for its dedication to the object of Rotary and its commitment to the ideal of ‘Service Above Self’.

The local Rotary Club has for the past year been celebrating its 50th anniversary which culminates with a Masked Ball this evening on board the Sunborn.

The event has also brought old friends to the Rock and a special visit from President of Rotary in UK and Ireland Peter Davey and District Governor for South East England and Gibraltar Ray Dixon. Both men presented Gibraltar Rotary President Penelope Pilley with a commemorative plaque yesterday afternoon.

There are over 50,000 Rotarians in the UK, Ireland and Gibraltar, all providing a service to the community.
