Save the Children Christmas Jumper Campaign skyrockets in donations

The Gibraltar Save the Children branch has been overwhelmed by the response from the community to its Christmas Jumper Campaign that collects warm clothes for Syrian children.

Paul Lyon, Chairman of the STC Gibraltar branch, was jumping for joy yesterday ahead of the charity campaign to be held at the Piazza at 10am today.

“I have been overwhelmed by the response of this gloriously generous Gibraltarian community,” he said. “Even the head office in the UK has heard about it and I think this is wonderful.”

The former head teacher will do a tour of the schools that are involved in the event today and will also do collection rounds on Monday.

“The reaction has been absolutely awesome,” he said.

“The number of caring donations has doubled in the space of four days. We have even had donations from anonymous people up to £600. It is humbling and gratifying and above and beyond what was expected.”
