Scarlet Knights take girls U16 League Cup

Jayde Garro and Julia Doña led Scarlet Knights to a comfortable 54-35 win over hitherto unbeaten Huskies in Friday afternoon’s final of the Girls U16 League Cup.

The teams had very different performances in the Group Phase, with Huskies comfortably winning their three games whereas Scarlet Knights drew their first game with Terriers and only beat Pirates thanks to a miraculous buzzer-beating shot, before losing to Huskies. At full-strength in the semi finals and in the final, the Knights proved to be the strongest team in the competition.

They took the first quarter 13-10, and increased their advantage to 28-19 by half-time, with Julia and Jayde in great form and Sophie Stanley keeping Huskies in touch, their normally prolific scorer Nanda Teuma suffering an off day.

The third quarter was also won by Knights (18-8) and it was all over by then, although Mara Todoran made sure that Huskies would go down fighting, the last quarter ending 8-8.
