Sir Joshua’s daughter takes seat in Jerusalem council
Fleur Hassan-Nahoum, a daughter of the late Sir Joshua Hassan, has been inducted as a city councillor in Jerusalem.
Ms Hassan-Nahoum, a lawyer and member of the Yerushalmim Party, was described in an article in the Jerusalem Post as an advocate of immigrant and women’s rights.
In her induction speech, Hassan-Nahoum referred to growing up as the daughter of a politician and being well aware of the “difficulties” and “sacrifice” that such a position entails, the newspaper reported.
Sir Joshua was Gibraltar’s first British mayor and served four consecutive terms as Chief Minister, playing a key role in the development of civil rights and self-government here.
Ms Hassan-Nahoum’s sister, Marlene Hassan-Nahon, is also involved in frontline politics and recently resigned from the GSD but intends to remain in the Gibraltar Parliament as an independent MP.
