Suspicious vessels intercepted by Guardia Civil

Two suspicious vessels were intercepted by Guardia Civil at the River Guadarranque in Algeciras yesterday after running aground on the riverbed at low tide.

The helmsan of the second vessel was arrested for falsified documents and its four other crew members are currently being investigated on the incident.

The first vessel also lacked matching identification for its motors and was confiscated with several canisters filled with fuel found in its interior.

A statement from Spain’s Interior Ministry said that Guardia Civil officers observed the first vessel run aground and searched for its three crew members who had fled the scene.

At that moment another vessel entered the mouth of the river at speed and almost crashed into the first craft were it not for some evasive manoeuvres.

The inspection of the craft revealed falsified identification that did not correspond to the vessel’s documentation which also lacked serial numbers for its motors.
