“The facilities are second to none and Gibraltar sporting footprint will only improve.” says CGAG
The Commonwealth Games Association of Gibraltar congratulates all athletes, coaches and officials on a successful home Island Games.
Despite doubts and concerns before the games about ‘if ‘Gibraltar was ready to host the event, these were put to bed by the extreme hard work and dedication of all involved, including HM Government and all sporting entities.
General Secretary of The Gibraltar Commonwealth Games Association Joe Schembri said “Fantastic results were achieved across the board with Commonwealth sports and athletes coming to the fore.” He added “ The young shooters captured medals in 7 out of 9 rifle events, Pistol again bagged a hat full and clay also chipped in to lead Team Gibraltar, Amanda Carreras who competed in Delhi in 2010 led the way in Tennis with three Gold and Squash also brought home a silver.”
I was impressed with Sprinter Jessy Franco who claimed two Golds after impressive displays in the Gold Coast just over a year ago.
And National records and personal bests were set in the pool, while cycling and triathlon lit up our roads throughout the week.”
In fact all sports have done well and are to be congratulated.”
It show’s what Gibraltar can do and have on offer it’s a pity that we missed out on hosting the Youth Commonwealth Games in 2021.”
