UK to protest Spanish warship incursion

The UK Government will protest an unlawful incursion into British Gibraltar territorial waters by a Spanish warship on Sunday evening.

The Infanta Cristina sailed into British waters on the east side of the Rock and was later challenged by HMS Sabre and a rigid-hulled inflatable boat from the Royal navy’s Gibraltar Squadron.

As it approached British waters, the Spanish vessel issued orders to a merchant vessel, Blue Giant, which was anchored off La Linea but later sailed into Gibraltar’s eastern anchorage and stopped there.
