Warm community welcome for new Governor

Members of the public lined the streets outside the Gibraltar Parliament to catch a glimpse of the new Governor Lieutenant General Edward Davis before the swearing in ceremony yesterday.

Government ministers, opposition members, Supreme Court judges, Monsignor Paul Bear and other civic dignitaries awaited his arrival inside the Parliament building.

Upon arrival Lt Gen Davis and his wife Lorraine Davis were greeted by Commissioner of Police Eddie Yome and an inspection of the officers of the Royal Gibraltar Police ensued.

A young girl from the ‘Rainbows’ division of the Girl Guides presented Mrs Davis with an arrangement of flowers. Mrs Davis was overjoyed and thanked the girl for the bouquet.

Lt Gen Davis and Mrs Davis gave a warm welcome to young members of the Brownies, Scouts, and Sea Scouts. They spent a couple minutes talking to each of the children individually, thanking them for taking time out to come and greet them, and commenting on the lovely weather.
